Manilla rope blocks (London pattern) for the use of synthetic/natural fibre rope

  • These blocks come in single sheave, double sheave, treble sheave and four sheave.
  • They start at 10mm (manilla rope diameter) up to 26mm
  • The work load limit of the blocks appear on the hooks and depends on the number of sheaves
  • The blocks are designed to lift small loads that can be handled by one person
  • The sheave life can be improved if the pulling effort will be done by a vehicle and where the velocity ratio will exceed that of someone pulling on the rope. The sheaves must be fitted with heavy duty bearings to handle the speed that will be applied.
  • The pulley blocks are not fitted with a brake to suspend the load if no effort is applied.
  • The reeving of blocks in an attempt to improve the effort must be done as explained in the diagram on the Engineering Supplies Website.
  • The suspension point for the top hook must be such that it will safely carry the load to be lifted.

Snatch blocks (for use with steel wire rope)

  • Snatch blocks come in single sheaves and they come complete with phosphor bronze bushes and have grease nipples to keep the sheaves lubricated.
  • The sheave life can be improved if the pulling effort will be done by a vehicle and/or a winch where the velocity ratio will exceed that of someone pulling on the rope. The sheaves must be fitted with heavy duty bearings to handle the speed that will be applied.
  • The snatch blocks range from 500kg to 10ton and the work load limit is on the body of the blocks.
  • The rope cannot dislodge from the sheave once fitted and the hook is attached to the suspension point. The hook has to be removed from a suspension point and swivelled backward or forward to be able to open the side plate to remove the rope.
  • The snatch block may be used together with a Reeving block to enhance the effort when lifting a load.

Reeving blocks (for use with steel wire rope)

  • These blocks come in single sheave, double sheave, treble sheave and four sheave.
  •  They start at 13mm (steel wire rope diameter) up to 26mm
  • The work load limit of the blocks appear on the blocks and depends on the number of sheaves
  • The blocks are designed to lift large loads that be handled by a winch/vehicle
  • The sheave life can be improved if the pulling effort will be done by a vehicle and where the velocity ratio will exceed normal pulling on the rope.
